Welcome to Jule Mau, our new trainee for Research

On 1 February, Jule Mau will start a 6 months’ traineeship at SwissCore.

Jule is currently finishing her Bachelor’s in Economics degree at the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland, after spending a semester abroad at the National University of Singapore. In her Bachelor thesis, she explores the political determinants of Chinese foreign direct investment in developing countries. It allowed her to get first-hand experience of academic research in development economics, which she wants to combine with her passion for politics to learn more about the working environment and conditions of researchers.

During the final semester of her Bachelor’s studies, she worked at the University of St.Gallen’s Learning Centre. This provided her with the chance to encounter leading academic researchers to discuss the challenges they face in their respective fields. Especially a meeting with the former president of the European Research Council drew her interest to the Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Framework Programme and its implications for a non-associated Switzerland.

During her time at SwissCore, she will help the European Advisor for Research in day-to-day activities and will additionally focus on a dedicated project.
