We are happy to welcome Klara Sasse, who will be joining us for a six-month traineeship in the field of European research and innovation.
Klara recently graduated from ETH Zurich with a Master’s degree in Mathematics, specialising in mathematical optimisation and statistics. During her studies, she became interested in how mathematical approaches to complex problems can be applied beyond her own field, as well as in the role that research and innovation can play in addressing societal challenges.
Alongside her studies, Klara was involved in Swiss higher education policy and served as Co-President of the Swiss National Union of Students (VSS UNES USU). Through this work, she gained experience in representing different perspectives and working on policy issues affecting higher education institutions. She also developed an interest in European cooperation and in how different perspectives can contribute to tackling challenges that extend beyond national borders.
During her traineeship at SwissCore, Klara will work on research and innovation policy. She is curious about the dialogue between research and society: not only how new knowledge and technologies can help address societal challenges, but also how society’s needs, values and concerns can influence what research and innovation we pursue. At SwissCore, she hopes to explore this relationship from a European perspective and bring some of the ways of thinking she developed through mathematics into a new context.
