Welcome Sophie Widmer, our new Trainee for Research

On 1 September, we welcomed Sophie Widmer who started a 6 months traineeship in the field of European research policies and programmes.

Sophie graduated this summer from the University of Zurich with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, where she developed a strong interest in the relationship between political behaviour, societal change, and technological development. In her bachelor’s thesis, she explored how subjective social status influences voting behaviour in Western democracies, particularly in the context of technological change.

She spent a semester abroad at KU Leuven, which deepened her interest in European politics and institutions. Alongside her studies, Sophie gained practical experience working at an animal rights NGO, where she learned how non-governmental organisations operate and developed valuable skills in campaigning and public outreach.

Sophie’s traineeship project will focus on the European Union’s international collaboration in the field of research.
