The European Commission launched the EU Knowledge Valorisation Platform to facilitate the uptake of research results across European Member States.
As Horizon Europe is launching and the first calls for projects are opening, the European Commission (EC) set up a new digital space to foster knowledge exchange between European researchers. This platform, called the EU Knowledge Valorisation Platform, aims at connecting players across the EU through an interactive forum. This way, they will be able to share best practices, knowledge and expertise. A main objective of the platform is to facilitate the uptake of research results in society and the economy. In fact, transforming results into sustainable products, processes and services that bring economic value is key to rip fully the benefits of European research.
The new Knowledge Valorisation Platform is an initiative towards the implementation of the new European Research Area (ERA) and a follow up to a study on policy dialogue and exchange of best practices. The topic of knowledge valorisation made its way to the top of the agenda with the launch of Horizon Europe. Indeed, the EC wants to ensure that the results of Horizon Europe projects are shared among European researchers. It was also boosted by the COVID-19 pandemic, which highlighted the importance of facilitating the uptake of research results in society. The EC is also preparing a set of `Guiding Principles for Knowledge Valorisation’. A stakeholder consultation on the topic is open until 6 September 2021.
To encourage action on the issue further, several topics in the Horizon Europe Calls for proposals 2021-2022 address key aspects of knowledge valorisation for society and the economy. In the 2021 work programme, the EC welcomes proposals on raising awareness of intellectual asset management and on promoting standardisation. For 2022, the EC hopes to see a project on an experimentation space for the uptake and use of R&I results for EU resilience. With these actions, the EC aims at increasing the visibility and fostering the use of research and innovation outcomes.
