Call for Switzerland’s inclusion in Horizon Europe

Research and innovation organisations at national and European level sign an Open Letter that calls for Switzerland’s participation in Horizon Europe.

The European Commission (EC) is weighing the “value-added” of Switzerland’s participation in Horizon Europe “against the state of the overall relationship” between the EU and Switzerland (see SwissCore article). Meanwhile, an Open Letter signed by research and innovation organisations at European and national levels calls for Switzerland’s participation in the new R&I framework programme 2021-2027.

The Open Letter highlights the win-win character of the collaboration between the EU and Switzerland in the area of research and innovation and calls for Europe to “stand together and unite its forces” in light of the post-COVID recovery and Climate Change. The signatories of the Open Letter underscore: “As Science, Technology, and Innovation organisations, we are sincerely convinced that a full association of Switzerland to Horizon Europe will ensure the continuity of a successful collaboration between the Swiss Confederation and the European Union in Research and Innovation.”

First signatories of the Open Letter include European Advisory Councils for Science, Technology and Innovation, Science Organisations, and Associations of European Universities. The Open Letter will be regularly updated as new signatories join. If your organisation is interested in supporting Switzerland’s association to Horizon Europe as signatory to the Open Letter, please contact the following colleagues at the Swiss Science Council (SSC), who are coordinating this initiative:
