SUMMARY:Swiss Innovation Briefing
DESCRIPTION:Creative Economies: Creation of innovation and values for a strong Europe \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe role of art and design as an important driver for societal and economic value creation and innovation is more and more recognised at European level. This is evident not least in two recent developments: the establishment of the new EIT Knowledge and Innovation Community for Culture & Creativity\, as well as the New European Bauhaus. Creative economies are paradigmatic for how artistic thinking and processes can be made entrepreneurially and societally productive and lead to new forms of value creation. But what are exactly creative economies and how do they play a role on the European level? Which entrepreneurial strategies do artists and designers pursue? How is value-creation conceived and measured in the creative economies? During this briefing\, Senior representatives from the new EIT Culture & Creativity KIC and the experienced teams from the Zurich Centre for Creative Economies at Zurich University of the Arts\, the u-institut\, Berlin and Tabakalera\, San Sebastián explored these questions and reflected them with MEP Dr. Christian Ehler\, Lisa Lang\, Director Policy & EU Affairs Orchestrator for EIT Climate KIC\, and Mariachiara Esposito\, Policy Officer at the European Commission. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOrganisers: the Mission of Switzerland to the EU\, the Delegation of the Basque Country to the EU\, and SwissCore \n\n\n\nProgramme: here \n\n\n\nPresentations: here \n\n\n\nSummary of the event: here

SUMMARY:Swiss Science Briefing
DESCRIPTION:Academic Freedom: an essential value for progress and prosperity \n\n\n\n\n\nAcademic freedom is a basic tenet that underpins scientific progress and encompasses the freedom to pursue research\, teach and study without unreasonable interference. However\, in recent years\, academic freedom is increasingly coming under pressure. \n\n\n\nThis Science Briefing therefore addressed questions such as: What is the state of affairs of academic freedom in Europe and globally? How can science communities contribute to prevent a further erosion of academic freedom? What are the implications on international scientific cooperation involving nations with different value systems? \n\n\n\nFor that purpose\, Martina Caroni Professor at the University of Lucerne and the Swiss Academies’ Delegate for Human Rights\, together with Gosse Vuijk\, Head of Parliamentary Affairs for the Member of the European Parliament Christian Ehler\, provided keynotes. \n\n\n\nThereafter\, a panel discussion followed with Jan Willem Duyvendak\, Director of the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences\, Katrin Kinzelbach\, Professor for International Politics of Human Rights at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität in Erlangen-Nürnberg\, Koen Lemmens\, Professor of Human Rights Law at the KU Leuven and Slaven Misljencevic\, Policy Officer\, DG RTD\, European Commission. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOrganisers: the Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences\, the Swiss National Science Foundation and SwissCore \n\n\n\nProgramme: here \n\n\n\nSummary of the event: here
