3 areas selected for future FET-Flagships
The European Commission (EC) held a roundtable with high-level representatives from member states, European research organisations and the industry on 15 December.

Based on the results of a public consultation launched earlier this year, the aim of the roundtable chaired by Günther H. Oettinger, European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society, was to determine what major challenges need to be addressed by future FET-Flagships. The participants had already shared their views ahead of the roundtable, either supporting topics proposed in the public consultation, or commenting more broadly on the FET-Flagship funding instruments, like was done by Science Europe in their recent policy brief.

The key areas selected are 'ICT for connected society', 'health and life science', 'environment, climate and energy'. They are broadly defined and will be open to competition for preparatory actions for future flagships under the 2018-2020 Work Programme of Horizon 2020. This opens the room for new ideas, which had not been proposed in the public consultation, to be submitted once the call is launched. A second roundtable might take place in 2017, to further refine the three selected areas.

FET-Flagships, roundtablehttps://www.swisscore.org/Lists/Public/Article/DispForm.aspx?ID=7732016-12-14T23:00:00ZscArticle{04C909A7-DDC5-E611-80C5-005056B7191C}https://www.swisscore.org/Lists/Public/ArticleImages/FET%20flagship.jpg, https://www.swisscore.org/Lists/Public/ArticleImages/FET%20flagship.jpg
