Mandated by the federal government, The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) supports basic science in all academic disciplines, from history to medicine and the engineering sciences. The SNSF is Switzerland's foremost research funding organisation and supports approximately 8,500 researchers every year.
The State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) within the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER) is the federal government's specialised agency for national and international matters concerning education, research and innovation policy. The SERI has 280 members of staff and controls an annual budget of around CHF 4 billion.
Innosuisse, formerly CTI, lends support to market-oriented research and development (R&D) projects between universities and companies, to entrepreneurship as well as to the development of start-up companies. CTI helps to optimise knowledge and technology transfer through the use of National Thematic Networks, Innovation Mentors and Thematic Platforms.
Euresearch is the Swiss network mandated by SERI providing targeted information, hands-on advice and transnational partnering related to European research and innovation programmes to researchers, innovators, and research support staff. The network is composed of a Network Office in Bern - which hosts all Horizon 2020 National Contact Points (NCP) - and Offices all over Switzerland.
Movetia, based in Solothurn, is the Swiss agency for exchange and mobility. It was set up by the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI), the Federal Office of Culture (FOC), the Federal Social Insurance Office (FSIO) and the Swiss Conference of Cantonal Ministers of Education (EDK) at the beginning of 2017. Movetia is a platform that provides contacts, information and financial support related to exchange and mobility, both in Switzerland and abroad and both in schools, vocational education, higher education and in the extracurricular sphere. Movetia is mandated to implement the Swiss solution for Erasmus+.
The Mission of Switzerland to the European Union (Mission CH EU) promotes Switzerland's interests within the EU. The Mission CH EU formally represents Switzerland vis-à-vis the European institutions - like the European Commission , the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union , the various committees of the EU and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) and the national representations and mission to the EU.
The Norwegian Contact Office for Research, Innovation and Education (NorCore), is the joint Brussels office of The Research Council of Norway, Innovation Norway and the Norwegian Centre for International Cooperation in Education. Their objectives are to:
- further European collaboration within research, innovation and education
- strengthen Norwegian actors' ability to achieve their international goals
- support Norwegian participation in Eu programmes
- serve as bridge between the Norwegian system and stakeholders in Brussels
- contribute to the development of policy within research, innovation and education
The Informal Group of EU RTD Liaison Offices (IGLO) is an informal European association of Brussels-based non-profit research and innovation liaison offices. IGLO aims at facilitating and enhancing the interaction, information exchange and cooperation between its Members, their national knowledge societies, the European institutions and other national and European organisations on issues related to the Europe of Knowledge, in particular the European Research Area (ERA) and the European Framework Programme for Research and Innovation.
